A clinical assessment is still important before most travel vaccines. It confirms that the vaccine is appropriate and safe for you, checks timing and entry rules, and identifies risks that may not be obvious from the destination alone. We’ll keep the process focused and efficient.

OHIP generally does not cover services provided solely for travel outside Canada, including pre-travel assessments and related paperwork. Some routine or medically indicated services may be covered in other circumstances.

Most vaccines needed specifically for travel are considered elective and fall outside Ontario’s publicly funded program. Some routine vaccines may be publicly funded when you meet provincial eligibility criteria.

Recommendations are individualized. Each traveler has a different age, medical history, vaccine record, medication list and risk profile—even on the same itinerary—so every person requires their own assessment and chart.

Some family doctors do provide travel advice, but travel medicine requires current destination data, specialized vaccine inventory, entry-rule knowledge and time for a detailed itinerary review. A dedicated clinic brings these services together in one visit.

Many extended health plans reimburse some consultation fees, vaccines or prescription costs, but coverage varies. Ask your insurer which travel health services are included and keep your itemized receipt for submission.

Yes. Universal Travel Health is a designated Yellow Fever vaccination centre. When vaccination is appropriate, we can provide the official International Certificate of Vaccination or Prophylaxis (the yellow card).

Ideally, book four to six weeks before departure. Some vaccines need multiple doses or time to build protection. If you’re leaving sooner, still contact us—last-minute travelers can often receive useful vaccines, prescriptions and practical advice.

Bring any records you can find, including provincial records, old vaccine cards or pharmacy printouts. We’ll review what is known and discuss safe next steps; depending on the vaccine, that may include repeating a dose or checking immunity.

Some eligible medical expenses may qualify for the Medical Expense Tax Credit, depending on current CRA rules and your circumstances. Keep your receipts and confirm eligibility with the CRA or a tax professional.
